Artist, Writer, Speaker, and Advocate
Throughout her life, Deborah dealt with a learning difference with central auditory processing deficit and autism. She learned to read before she learned to talk when she was five, through making visual-auditory connections. She tends to process information slower, but tends to retain information better. She tends to experience sensory overload from too much information being presented at once. Her father exhibited characteristics of autism. Developing a talent in art gave her solace from dealing with autism, low self-esteem, and societal prejudice. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Maryland in visual arts, she overcame many challenges adjusting to adulthood living independently. Happily married since 1985 without children, she constantly develops better life style habits, including diet, exercise, and meditation to reduce stress and increase sense of well-being. She raised her self-esteem with lots of encouragement. She is writing books on personal perspectives, including autism, stress reduction, and spirituality. She goes every where to present to various groups and served on several boards. She is involved with her community and cherishes diversity. I am blogging my autobiography: “Sour Sweet: Adversity into Creativity”. I have some of my artworks on a flickr.com and show videos of my speeches on youtube.com. I am looking forward to my speaking engagements to meet and inspire people. Please contact me to talk to your groups when the time is good.
